How to protect your online accounts?
Note: This article isn't directely related to Klavia.
Digital account scamming is unfortunately very prevalent in today's world. It is absolutely essential that you take the necessary precautions to protect your accounts from being stolen.
Set a strong password!
Are you one of those people who use the same weak password on every website? Well, stop! Do you want me to tell you the best tip that will make all your online accounts secure?
Use a good password manager. I recommend Proton Pass. With a password manager, you don't even have to know your actual passwords, you let the tool do the job for you! Signing in to your favorite websites becomes a breeze, and no typing is required! You just log in with a single click and, best of all, your passwords are super strong.
I know this sounds like an ad for Proton Pass but I promise I didn't receive a penny for writing this article! I'm telling you all this so that you can start taking account security seriously.
The most important thing to remember with a password manager is that this tool, too, requires a password. And this password is the most important of all, as it unlocks access to all the other ones!
Step 1: Choosing a strong "main" password
When you sign up for Proton Pass, the service will ask you to set a password. Choose one that is super secure. At least 15 characters with symbols and a mix of uppercase and lowercase. You can use a funny and non-sensical sentence as your password. Something like "Da bunny iz dancing on the burn1ng f!replacE". Store your password in a secure location and, most important, memorize it! You never want to forget your main password. It is the only one you actually have to memorize, since all the other ones will be handled by the password manager. Finally, do not use your main password for anything else, it is essential that it remains unique. Don't worry, you won't have to type this password often, as Proton Pass will memorize it. However, if you ever want to access your passwords on a different device, you'll have to install Proton Pass on that new device, which means you'll have to sign in using your crazy password.
Step 2: Install Proton Pass mobile app or browser extension
Proton Pass can be installed as a browser extension, which makes it very convenient. Every time you visit a website and have to sign up, Proton Pass kicks in and offers to generate a password for you. You let it do its magic, and you click submit to sign up for your favorite new game. Proton Pass will then ask if you want to add this new login to your list of passwords. You click YES and you're done! Next time you have to log in on that website, Proton Pass will automatically enter the login information for that website. You don't even have to know what this password is, no need to memorize it! But you can be sure the password will be strong and that it will only be used on that particular website and nowhere else.
