Number of characters per segment
Characters / Segment is a new feature introduced in Season IV, replacing speed zones and pre-generated segments. As the name suggests, it represents the number of characters you type in each segment of text. This number is calculated automatically from your speed (Top WPM Avg). The faster you type, the longer your segments.
The value shown on your profile is an approximation. Words are never cut off mid-way, so if your segment length is listed as 276 characters, the actual number typed in a race might be 280, 281, or slightly higher depending on the final word.
Don’t try to reset your Top WPM Avg by avoiding races for 30 days to get shorter segments. If it resets, your lifetime Top WPM Avg will be used instead, which usually gives you even longer segments. Just play normally and let the game set a segment length that fits your typing speed.
For new players without a meaningful Top WPM Avg yet (fewer than 30 top speeds), the system uses the average WPM from the races they’ve completed so far.
