Team duels on NTComps have been around for a few weeks now, and it's safe to say they're a success. I'm very happy to see the excitement this new type of team competition is generating! For those who aren't familiar yet, here's how a duel unfolds. Players on each team are grouped into one of three tiers based on their average speed. The A tier from one team faces the A tier from the other team, and the same goes for the other two tiers. In each tier, the team that completes the most races earns 3 points, the team with the best average WPM earns 1 point, and the team with the highest average accuracy also earns 1 point. This means that 5 points are awarded in each tier. This setup ensures that no tier is more important than another. I've always loved the intensity of a match between two high-level sports teams. Being Canadian, I grew up watching NHL hockey. I enjoyed, and still occasionally enjoy, listening to expert analysis and hearing the commentator describe every detail of what was happening on the ice. I also like the concept of a match because a match has a beginning and an end. Each team has to find a way to win using strategy and skill on the field before time runs out. I feel like standard leaderboards don't capture that intensity of the moment in the same way that duels do. The weekend duels span 48 hours. Generally, only active, well-established teams with a strong reputation are invited to compete in these duels. However, more and more, NTComps is giving lesser-known teams a chance to participate in the Weekend Duels. The best way for your team to earn an invitation to a duel is to play honestly and fight botting to the best of your ability. It's not your leaderboard position that will earn your team an invitation, but rather the values your team upholds. The king of the hill duels take place every Wednesday. One team is the king of the hill, and another team tries to overthrow them. As with the weekend duels, teams that demonstrate a commitment to fair play have a chance to be invited and attempt to dethrone the current king.
