We live in a world full of pollution, and things are getting worse. While it's impossible to reverse all of this damage, there are still things we can do individually to help this crisis. An easy way is to buy an electric vehicle. Electric vehicles are better for the environment than gas-powered cars because over their lifetimes they have a smaller carbon footprint than a car using gasoline, and they are cheaper. According to studies, over a year, electric vehicles create about only a third of the amount of carbon emissions as gas-powered vehicles, proving that by switching to electric vehicles we can cut down on carbon emissions. Another fact that some might not know is that all-electric vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles running only on electricity have zero tailpipe emissions. While the price to buy an electric vehicle is higher than that of the average gas-powered car, their prices have been dropping by significant amounts, with the average price of one falling over fourteen thousand dollars in recent years. Additionally, fuel for an electric vehicle was 485 dollars a year while for a gas-powered vehicle it was over 1100 dollars a year. While these prices have risen, the cost to power an electric vehicle is still significantly less than a gas-powered car per year. This proves that overall, electric vehicles are better, not just for the environment, but also cheaper in the long run.
