I open my laptop, the cursor blinks bright
My fingers are ready to type through the night
But quickly I find, with a groan and a sigh
That some words just laugh as my fingers fly by
Rhythm appears like a sneaky old trick
I hit every key but it just doesn't stick
No vowels in sight, just a lone little y
It wriggles and dances and waves me goodbye
Phlegm is disgusting in spelling and sound
Silent letters just lounging around
The g does no work, the h just pretends
Yet both must be typed or the chaos never ends
Colonel is next with its military grace
Yet spelling it feels like a slap in the face
It sounds like a popcorn, it's spelled like a maze
I stare at the word in a foggy-eyed daze
Bureaucracy struts with a tie and a frown
Each letter determined to slow my hands down
So many vowels in random arrangement
It feels like a puzzle more fit for containment
Liaison arrives with elegance loud
But types like a storm in a thundercloud
Two vowels together, an i that's misplaced
I always forget it and then feel disgraced
Still I keep going through typing despair
Correcting mistakes with furious care
These words may be tricky, but I will endure
With backspace and spellcheck as trusty cure
For even the hardest of words in the sea
Can't stop a writer determined as me
